No summer day compared to the day my mom would take me school supply shopping. Pens! Filler paper! Trapper Keepers! It couldn’t get any better.
To help extend the school supply fun, I started perusing the Sunday circulars weeks before “the day” to ensure I snagged my wide-rule for 38 cents. Thus, the frugality began. One year, I carefully folded the papers to feature the coveted Supply and stashed the ads together in a folder. The next year, I cut them out, and pasted them onto an 8×11 cardstock. Soon, I had cross-referenced lists of stores, supplies, prices tracked by the week and closest location.
With your full attention now… The content is still online, but Blender Magazine is yet another victim of falling advertising revenues and dwindling subscribers. Subscribers are receiving a copy of Maxim this month, with a white sticker pasted on the cover proclaiming that Blender has ceased publication since April 2009. Maybe my mail is just slow, but this is the first notice I’ve seen to subcribers. First clue, open the mailbox to find a startling nearly nudie magazine. I didn’t know it was Nudie Magazine Day.
Help me out here. Help me decide if Swagbucks, an online incentive program to earn gift cards and prizes is worth it. Swagbucks.com is a sponsored search site that offers digital dollars called “Swagbucks” for select searches. The search site is similar to Google or Yahoo for its functionality, although not as thorough as Google in its searches. So for “real” searches, it doesn’t offer the results I’m looking for. Tally one for the con column.
However, every day for the past 2 weeks, I’ve earned a Swagbuck here and there for random searches. They’ve accumulated to 35 Swagbucks. You can redeem 45 Swagbucks for a $5 Amazon gift card. Tally one for the pro column.
Other ways to earn: You can refer friends to Swagbucks through a personalized link (for example: www.swagbucks.com/refer/fatheaddog is my specific link), and for every Swagbuck they earn, you earn as well. That element is VERY multi-level marketing-like, but I suppose its harmless if there’s no cost involved.
This is what’s called a Widget Box, which members can add to their blogs and other sites. For every “winning” search, the member receives a Swagbuck as well as the new user. So, I’m still playing with it and looking forward to my first $5 Amazon gift card. I’d love to hear other’s experiences with this. Do tell!
From the experts at Kodak Gallery, who offer periodic photography tips, here’s one great idea for a precious time-capsule gift for mom, dad or grandparents:
A day in the life of…
Photograph your baby when they first wake up in the morning, and continue to document them at meals, bath time, naptime, playtime, and every other major moment in their day. Try and keep everything very typical to their schedule. Have a proof sheet made from the film and you’ll see a full day-in-the-life story of your baby made by you.

1. Scanning your CVS Extra Care card at the price scanner, which prints in-store coupons. Be sure to scan your card more than once. The machine will say something to the effect of “No More Coupons. Check Back Tomorrow.”
2. Signing up for the CVS e-mail newsletter, which gives notice of upcoming sales, special discount codes for online purchases and printable coupons for specific items and dollars off your total purchase. Here’s a current one for you.

Score a free sample of Bodycology bath and body products from Wal-Mart this month. Does the packaging look familar? Of course, its an homage to Bath and Body Works signature body care line of products.
