A Primer on Couponing

People who use coupons aren’t all like the TLC show Extreme Couponers, but sometimes they’re not far off.

You can purchase coupons online at eBay and Craig’s List, although the fine print states you’re paying for the time someone took to cut those coupons, rather than paying for the actual coupons, which is a violation of manufacturer’s coupon redemption policies.

Even more creatively, people claim to sell an envelope that contain coupons inside for free. That’s according to the Coupon Information Center, an association of consumer product manufacturers such as Kraft, General Mills Nestle and more. To show these brand giants mean business, the Coupon Information Center cites the most extreme penalties for coupon fraud: 17 years in prison and $5 million fine, though often connected to other criminal activities such as tax evasion and food stamp fraud.

Often the prices for these costly “envelopes” are gorged so consider finding coupons on a coupon clipping service, such as the mompreneur-owned TheCouponClippers.com or other coupon sites such as FreeCouponClips.com, where you can watch sponsored videos to earn points to trade-in for manufacturer coupons.
