I’m a Salty Dog

The FatHeadDog has been known to eat the contents of her desk drawer for lunch. Not file folders, but granola bars, ramen noodles, hot sauce packets and any random candy found leftover in a candy dish. Saves time AND money, right? My doctor thinks otherwise.

Im a Salty Dog Im a Salty Dog
High blood pressure schmlod pressure. And the killer is, I’d just snapped up these economical (cheap-ass) staples for lunch. 50 cents for lunch! (I’m not promoting gross sodium consumption–1,170 mg of sodium–but come on, a 12-pack of Hot & Spicy Shrimp ramen Im a Salty Dog for $6.81 with the 15% subscribe and save discount!)

So, because I can’t eat these yummy little fake food containers of goodness, I’ll pass along the salty details to you. Just don’t tell your doctor that FatHeadDog sent you.

Free gift cards with Swagbucks search

My office “neighbor” and I shout most things across our cubicle walls–meeting times, web content updates or the status of the donut table– but tips about the search-and-win site Swagbucks were always whispered. “Pss, there’s a Swagcode worth 11 bucks…”

You earn “Swagbucks” for searches performed on their site (as opposed to searching on Google). Points range from 7 to 20 “bucks” earned. You can redeem for tons of different prizes, but the best value, by far, is the $5 Amazon.com gift card for 450 bucks. Essentially free bucks for free gift cards.

Tips for Winning Swagbucks

  • Perform your searches approximately three to four times a day, several hours apart. I search first thing in the morning, after lunch, late afternoon and in the evening, earning about 7 to 10 bucks each.
  • Once you win bucks from a search, its fairly unlikely you’ll hit it again in a consecutive search, so you can save your next search for a few hours later.
  • When searching, try related terms to the original you searched, and click through all the pages of results. Also, you can try searching photos or videos for the same term. To me at least, it seems searching “deep” wins better results than searching “shallow” with dozens of unrelated terms (which, by the way, can penalize you if Swagbucks thinks you’re not performing “natural searches”).
  • Share the site with others who might like it, too and you’ll receive matching points for what they earn. That can make earning free gift cards easier and faster than ever. Click here to sign up for Swagbucks.com.

sculpted jewelry tree Why ‘Love Coupons’ Are Lame and What You Should Buy InsteadItsThoughtful.com is a cool gift browsing site and social community. Help for Your Amazon Order

FatHeadPup Help for Your Amazon OrderWhat a proud day it was the day FatHeadPup asked, “Mama, what this?” as he pulled a toddler-sized handful of coupons out of my wallet. “They’re coupons, John John.. Mama likes coupons.” My husband looked over at me, slyly concealing a smirk. I retorted his silent statement with, “Well, he’s never too young!”

Did you know Amazon offers coupons? They’re similar to manufacturers coupons on household items, such as Tide laundry detergent, Charmin bath tissue, Pampers diapers and more, that can be used at Amazon only. When I’m on the site, I can never seem to “find” them so here’s an easy link for you (and me) to the Amazon Coupon Book Help for Your Amazon Order.

Cheapskate Santa: How to Earn Extra Cash for Your Holiday Shopping

In this several-part series entitled Cheapskate Santa, FatHeadDog will share her favorite money-saving and money-earning techniques for the holiday season.

Earn FREE Amazon Gift Cards on Swagbucks

Until now, FatHeadDog has been on the fence about search and win sites. Then once I researched the best practices for winning, I’ve now got the hang of it and winning. Here’s how:

Swagbucks: You earn “Swagbucks” for searches performed on their site (as opposed to searching on Google). Points range from 7 to 50 “bucks” earned. You can redeem these bucks for thousands of prizes, but the best value, by far, is the $5 Amazon.com gift card for 450 bucks.

    1. Perform your searches approximately three to four times a day, several hours apart. I search first thing in the morning, after lunch, late afternoon and in the evening, earning about 7 to 10 bucks each.
    2. Once you win bucks from a search, its fairly unlikely you’ll hit it again in a consecutive search, so you can save your next search for a few hours later.
    3. When searching, try related terms to the original you searched, and click through all the pages of results. Also, you can try searching photos or videos for the same term. To me at least, it seems searching “deep” wins better results than searching “shallow” with dozens of unrelated terms (which, by the way, can penalize you if Swagbucks thinks you’re not performing “natural searches”).
    4. Share the site with others who might like it, too and you’ll receive matching points for what they earn. That can make earning those Amazon gift cards easier and faster than ever.

Click here to sign up for Swagbucks.com. On the left-side column, click on NOSO and keep clicking Skip or Next Offer on each offer until you reach the last page and receive 1 free Swagbuck.

Then, click on TRUSTED SURVEYS and you’ll receive another free Swagbuck.

Finally, click on DAILY POLL and vote to receive 1 free Swagbuck. Do this daily for 3 automatic bucks, in addition to your search wins.

The great thing about Fridays are Mega Swag Bucks, which offer larger denomination wins on Fridays only.

Cheapskate Santa: Earn $5 Amazon from iRazoo

fatheaddogsmall Cheapskate Santa: Earn $5 Amazon from iRazooI know mentioning the holidays before Halloween is a faux “paw” but really, its never too early to get started on your Christmas shopping and savings. In this new series I’m calling Cheapskate Santa, I’ll share ways I’ve discovered and researched to earn extra money for the holidays, as well as a way to stretch your holiday dollars.

Earn Amazon Gift Cards with iRazoo

irazoo Cheapskate Santa: Earn $5 Amazon from iRazooiRazoo is what Mashable calls a human-powered search engine that rewards users with prizes, such as $5 Amazon.com gift cards. If you already use Swagbucks, a site I’ve mentioned before, you’re familiar with the concept. Here are easy ways to earn points with iRazoo.

    1. Win points by searching as you would on Google, but a unique thing about iRazoo is that you’ve also got a chance to win a $5 Amazon gift card instantly with searches. I’ll tell you that their search results are not the best, because of the numerous sponsored results, so I’d recommend searching something broad, like frugal shopping, money-saving tips, etc. Search several times a day, spread several hours apart for your best results.
    2. Earn points with Treasure Codes–worth 10 to 50 points and valid for certain times only. You can spot these codes on their iRazoo Facebook page. To redeem these, click on My Account and then Add Treasure Code.
    3. Vote and comment on iRazoo search results. As a registered member, you can perform a search and recommend (yes or no) a site that you’ve viewed–you earn 25 points for voting yes or no. Within an iRazoo iFrame, you can leave a comment as well for additional 25 points. (I know seeing the user comments is annoying as hell… iRazoo if you’re listening! I just fight through it for the 100 free points.)

You can vote and comment on two sites daily to earn 100 points a day. Redeem 3000 points for $5 Amazon.com gift card. In three days, I’ve earn 300 points so it’d take about two weeks to earn a gift card. Worth it when you add iRazoo to other sites that I’ll recommend in this series to earn cash, gift cards and prizes. Every little bit counts!

How to Get 150 Points Right Now:

Use this link to sign up for iRazoo and you’ll receive 50 free points as bonus. Perform your first search and scroll down to the People Recommended Sites. Click on two sites you’re interested in, leave a comment and vote yes or no for recommendation. You’ll get your next 100 points that way.

Trade Frederick’s of Hollywood for Home Depot…

Trade Fredericks of Hollywood for Home Depot... If that gift card to Frederick’s of Hollywood just isn’t your speed, try selling it for cash or Amazon.com credit. You can buy, sell and trade gift cards at PlasticJungle.com. Trade Fredericks of Hollywood for Home Depot... I’ve been following Plastic Jungle for a while and intrigued, but just haven’t pulled the trigger. A nerd for research, here’s what I’ve found:

    The Rundown:

    • Sell gift cards for up to 85% of the cash value.
    • Example: Sell a Home Depot $50 gift card for $42 cash or $44.10 Amazon.com gift card
    • Buy gift cards for up to 25% off the face value.
    • Example: Purchase a Frederick’s of Hollywood $50 gift card for $39

It’s a great idea when you get stuck with a retail gift card that you know you’ll never use. The site offers a guarantee for both gift card buyers and sellers in the event the gift card is invalid or the balance is less than what was advertised.

I’m gonna give it a shot with a Jiffy Lube gift card I have (yeah, Jiffy Lube) and trade for an Amazon.com gift card, so I’ll report the results. Any one else have experience with Plastic Jungle or similar sites? Leave a comment here on FatHeadDog.

Snag a CVS gift card with Pampers codes

gifts to grow Snag a CVS gift card with Pampers codesThis one will probably go quick. On Pampers Gifts to Grow, you can snag a $20 gift card to CVS for 2,200 points (Edit 8/25: gift cards are gone now.) I know that’s like 10,000 million diapers worth of points, but that’s one of the best rewards I’ve seen on there to date. If you’re new to the program, here’s a quick guide.

    How to Earn Points:

    • Generic codes are released occasionally for public consumption, often around holidays.
    • One-time codes are found on Pampers products, for which points correspond with the size of the product purchased. A Jumbo pack offers less points than a larger, Mega pack, for example. And the giant 277-diaper box that showed up at my door from Amazon.com–the one that was bigger than my child–that one is worth a few more points.

    Review: Swagbucks

SwagBucks23 BTS Review: SwagbucksUntil now, FatHeadDog has been on the fence about the search and win site Swagbucks. I never seemed to “win” any points on searches, never entered the bonus “Swag Codes” in time and generally just failed at returning the investment of my time.

But now that I’ve gotten the hang of Swagbucks and figured out my best strategy for winning, I’m a big fan and tickled with the dozens of free Amazon.com gift cards I’ve scored from the site.

First off, here’s the premise of the site. You earn “Swagbucks” for searches performed on their site (as opposed to searching on Google). Points range from 7 to 50 “bucks” earned. You can redeem these points for thousands of prizes, but the best value, by far, is the $5 Amazon.com gift card for 450 bucks.

Here are a few pointers for winning:

    Search Early, Search Often

    1. Perform your searches approximately three to four times a day, several hours apart. I search first thing in the morning, after lunch, late afternoon and in the evening.

    Once You Win, Walk Away

    2. Once you win bucks from a search, its fairly unlikely you’ll hit it again, so you can save your next search for a few hours later.

    Search Deep, Not Shallow
