No summer day compared to the day my mom would take me school supply shopping. Pens! Filler paper! Trapper Keepers! It couldn’t get any better.

To help extend the school supply fun, I started perusing the Sunday circulars weeks before “the day” to ensure I snagged my wide-rule for 38 cents. Thus, the frugality began. One year, I carefully folded the papers to feature the coveted Supply and stashed the ads together in a folder. The next year, I cut them out, and pasted them onto an 8×11 cardstock. Soon, I had cross-referenced lists of stores, supplies, prices tracked by the week and closest location.

That was a busy summer of 4th grade.
