Recently for the magazine, I interviewed Kim Kardashian about her branding genius. Research for that interview got me buzzing on pop culture. And I’m not afraid to tell you how much time I’ve spent on TMZ.com lately. (The photo is the Old Navy look-alike.)

So, here’s my best Hollywood reporter shot at a “What’s Hot and What’s Not” column.

Amy Winehouse, dead at 27, wasn’t always the train wreck she was cartooned in the media. It’s easy to forget that with the flashbulbs of paparazzi around her. Pictured here in 2007, this candid photo on stages shows an actually sexy Winehouse.

I actually thought of that while interviewing Kardashian, when she mentioned how her step-dad Bruce Jenner had once been featured in SUCCESS. Something about Kim saying, step-dad, struck me as very human and reminded me for all her caricatures in the media, she is a real person. (I think.)

In lighter news, file this under that’s a new one: a Silent Disco. It’s apparently where everyone straps on a pair of headphones and raves to their own beat. The dance floor is completely silent. Here’s a video.

I’ve been following Plastic Jungle for a while and intrigued, but just haven’t pulled the trigger. A nerd for research, here’s what I’ve found:

The Rundown:

Sell gift cards for up to 85% of the cash value.
Example: Sell a Home Depot $50 gift card for $42 cash or $44.10 Amazon.com gift card

Buy gift cards for up to 25% off the face value.
Example: Purchase a Frederick’s of Hollywood $50 gift card for $39

It’s a great idea when you get stuck with a retail gift card that you know you’ll never use. The site offers a guarantee for both gift card buyers and sellers in the event the gift card is invalid or the balance is less than what was advertised.

I’m gonna give it a shot with a Jiffy Lube gift card I have (yeah, Jiffy Lube) and trade for an Amazon.com gift card, so I’ll report the results. Any one else have experience with Plastic Jungle or similar sites? Leave a comment here on FatHeadDog.
